Identifying Cases
The NRLF is interested in cases that promote democratic values and protect human rights. We pursue cases that seek damages, injunctive relief, or both. The NRLF has a particular interest in cases that counter the Chinese Communist Party but supports all cases that further our mission. If you have a case idea you want to explore, please get in touch.
Collaborating with Legal Teams
The NRLF collaborates with individual lawyers, public interest firms, and non-profit organizations interested in taking on cases that align with our mission. If you want to work together, please get in touch.
Funding
Any funding received by the NRLF will be used to make recoverable grants to support litigation that meets the following criteria:
The case will promote democratic values, protect human rights, and challenge the influence of authoritarian regimes.
The case is deemed strategically sound by the NRLF’s board of volunteer directors.
The NRLF will fund individual lawyers, public interest firms, and non-profit organizations involved in litigation that meet the funding criteria. If the case yields a fee or cost recovery either at trial or in settlement, all grant recipients will be required to repay the grant plus a reasonable rate of interest. In the absence of a fee or cost recovery, nothing will be owed to the NRLF.
